Universidad de Valčncia, Antiga Senda Senent, 11, 46071 Valčncia, Spain, Valencia
Description:
Coming to its 5th centenary soon, the old "Estudi General de Valčncia" initially dedicated to the study of medicine, humanities, theology, and law has become a modern European university today. Given the wide range of studies offered as well as its human dimension, the University of Valencia is one of the largest, oldest, and most varied Spanish universities.

HOUSING
by Susan, University of Vermont, Burlington, United States
Architecture, Through University of Virginia
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? More independence/freedom. Also, it would be better if friends or family came to visit.
Personal comments:
The university normally sets up international students with homestays, but I chose to find housing on my own. Most of the other students were very happy with there homestay families, and if one wasn't happy with their situation, the university was very understanding about it and would work with him or her and switch them to a different home if need be. STUDENT LIFE
by Katrin, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Mainz, Germany
Journalism, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
I loved the old town part "El Carmen" but that´s not really an inside info because nearly everyone goes there. My best insider: ask for the "circulo teatro". A bunch of bars and cafes organize entertainments at night, the program changes every two month. The entrance is for free, you only have to drink something. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
The professors were very helpful and would explain certain words and terms when someone did not know or understand something. Most locals were the same way too. They all respected the fact that a foreigner was in their country learning their language and showing an interest in their culture. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I didn´t have a fixed telephone so I had to call from my mobile or from a public telephone. Generally the rents are cheaper in Spain. The nightlife is less expensive than in Germany, but I went out more than at home! Even after a few months you still feel like being on holiday! I traveled more than I do in Germany, because I had only a few months to get an impression of the country. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Bring your mobile and a buy a spanish SIM-Card. Most households don´t have a fixed telephone! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
A lot. Like how much paper work you had to do just to register. But things just pop up on the way so you can never really be 100% ready. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
To be less bureaucratic. To build a "buddy system", where local students help the exchange students with all the basic things such as registering for subjects etc. An international office where people actually can speak english. FINAL COMMENTS
Valencia is a nice and cosy city to live in. The social life is great and you will never get bored. Be sure to make contacts with the local people or better yet share an appartment with other local students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
