From the first day on I tried to hang around only with spanish or southamerican people to improve ma spanish. I heard of a lot of people who only knew other international students and who passed days without speaking a spanish word at all. The spanish people are really nice and open, so it´s not too hard to make new friends.

The professors were very helpful and would explain certain words and terms when someone did not know or understand something. Most locals were the same way too. They all respected the fact that a foreigner was in their country learning their language and showing an interest in their culture.

In the beginning it was quit tempting to speak english with the international students, but after a while we decided to talk spanish with each other which worked pretty well. In the begining it was quit hard to keep up the speed during classes, but I managed pretty well due to a course taken beforehand.

Spanish is a must for living in Spain.Others languages are NOT spoken! But it's the best thing that can happen to you. After 3-4weeks you are FLUENT! Just speak, and don't be shy. Spanish people are very open. They love talking to strangers; especially if you are an exchange student

In the begining it was dificult because I couldn´t speak a word but after an intensive course of Spanish and thanks to the fact that the universitycourses also were in Spanish it went easier. I had no choice but learning it because it is the only language that they speak in spain

Spanish is pretty easy for italians. Before leaving I did just 2 weeks of an intensive spanish course. It was the first time I studied spanish in my life. Yet after 2 months, I was able to interact with everyone and speak of almost everything.
