Universitat de Vic - Fundaciò Universitària Balmes

Sagrada Familia 7, 08500 Vic, Spain
4.29 / 5 based on 48 reviews.
Description:
The University of Vic is of a different kind. It is a new model of a private university as far as its method of management and administration is concerned. However, it also maintains a clear vocation towards public service and a responsibility to its surroundings. A university with the optimum dimension for educational efficiency. A university with an international vision. A practical university with the objective for professional input.

HOUSING
by Louisa, Cardiff University, Cardiff, United Kingdom
Translating/Interpreting, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Great experience both culturally and linguistically.
Personal comments:
Halls accommodation is scarce if not non-existent but the university will place you with a family if you want. Private sector accommodation is cheap, easy to come by and of a good standard however, but be careful if you are only there for one semester.

Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
To have a drink with a group you have to go to L'India (an Irish Pub) to hear some R&B and to look at other people you need to step into Clot and to have a nice cocktail with some friends go to Tropic

Course recommendations:
If they say that they're offered in English always ask again and make sure that they really are :) But that was not that big of a deal, studying in Spanish is more interesting ;)

Overall
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish
How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
As the University of Vic is situated in Catalunya and the city itself is very catalan, all the people on the streets are talking Catalan - much more than I expected. It was sometimes dificult to find someone who speaks Spanish!

FINAL COMMENTS

It is important to be open minded and be prepared for anything that might happen. This way you will avoid disappointment and you will have a really good time. Give the catalan language a try as well, I wish I would have.
