HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? My University accommodation was cheap and ideally located
Personal comments:
I was generally pleased with my university residence. My room served all the functional purposes I needed and had a telephone line and free internet access in the room which was brilliant. The accommodation was fairly clean. The major disadvantage was the cooking facilities. Although the kitchens had fridges in them you couldn't keep your food in them as people stole it and there weren't any ovens either. But apart from that, I was satisfied with my accommodation. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities, Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Several good bars at the city center, and a busy night life, dominated by students, on the Overpoortstraat and surroundings. Culture club should not be missed as the best club in the city. Gentse Feesten in July is the main event of the year and you surely can't miss it, since it is 10 days of music, art and culture in the streets, when the city is highly crowded. Check out Limonada in the center of the city, great cosy place. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
The course that is definitely worth to follow: Seminar Marketing, based on the computer program the details you may found about at www.markstratonline.com .
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
There should be more courses that are both for Erasmus and Dutch students since as I noticed the interaction with local students could be of a great advantage and I missed it many times. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Dzongkha
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning Dzongkha a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your Dzongkha?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I had no idea the language of instruction was going to be Dutch, so be careful to have this point clarified beforehand. However, since I inteded to stay for 3 years, I would have learned it anyway (only at a slower pace). In the end it proved to be a success story: it made everything easier and more enjoyable (except studying, especially in the beginning) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings A private grant Work opportunities:
I worked, but it was illegal/cash in hand work Personal spending habits:
Accommodation as well as telephone were generally more expensive and that made my budget tight. Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Deposits at independent appartments may be as high as equal to 3months rent, so be prepared. Get economy cards for trams and buses (10 trips each is OK). Organize weekly super market supplies and eat at the student homes (good prices and good quality). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
More information about the course content would have been better. Because the faculty's not used to having many Erasmus students (as the courses are only in Dutch), we weren't provided with much information about what would be expected of us upon arrival. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I would definately recommend Gent University to anyone. I had an amazing time. The International Relations Office was really helpful and well organised. They were always promt to answer any questions I had prior to arriving and, when I arrived, there was an Erasmus Welcome Day which detailed everything we would need to know about our stay in Gent. The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) was really helpful and a brilliant organisation for socialising and meeting other Erasmus Students. FINAL COMMENTS
Studying abroad is the best thing you could do to broaden your horizons. Not only does it further you acedemically, it enables you to meet people from a wide range of countries and cultures. You will end up with friends all over Europe! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
