HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: University Student Dormitory
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: I would chose the same accomodation.
Why? I was fully satisfied.
Personal comments:
The UvA Dormitory at Sarphatistraat 145 is within 5 min walking distance from the Economics Faculty buildings and right above the super market with extended opening hours. The whole area is very picturesque. You can relax in the Osterpark, go to the Windmill or lay at the bank of canals surrounding the place. Sarphatistraat is rather peaceful part of the city located next to the relaxed Plantage district where one can find the Amsterdam ZOO and Botanical Garden with cozy restaurants and cafes. It is worth to mention that Administration of the Dormitory "De Key" provided tenants with all washing equipment free of charge. The kitchen in the apartments is fully equipped. And if you are planning to use palnes while in Amsterdam you will soon discover that to get to the Schiphol airport simply take the subway line to the Wespeerplein Station (10 min within walking distance from the Dormitory). ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
As you probably know as an exchange student you are entitled to choose any subjects on languages you speak at any faculties of the University. It is advisable though to ask the lecturer in advance and find out if there are any prerequisites, which you can find at the University Web site. All handbooks are available to buy at the faculty shops. Each subject has its own Web page connected to the University main Internet site. You will find there all information about your teachers, student group, home assignment; further readings as well as transparencies form the lectures if such are available.

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
I wanted to use most of the opportunity I was offered as an exchange student. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
As you will soon discover everybody commutes on the bike in Amsterdam. You can get one from EURO 60. Public transportation in the downtown area is slow and rather inefficient and very expensive in comparison to biking. You cannot avoid public transportation however when getting to the airport or IKEA store. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
