HOUSING
by Temitope, Bowen University, Iwo, Nigeria
Economics, International Master Program
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? I would choose to live with Amsterdam host family if possible so as to understand and get more familiar with the culture(espacially food and language) and the way of life of the people of Holland.
Personal comments:
The housing provided was good but would have been better with an existence of a common place with facilities(T.V or Games) where students could meet each other and know their neighbours e.g a common room or a game/sport court. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There were a lot of activities to do: parties for international students in the university, parties in private house, cruises on the canals, museums discounts, nice famous brown cafčs and much more. The people there is fantastic! Friendly and open minded! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Erasmus students take an English level test. If you are good, they let you choose many more courses than the ones you could choose from your home university.
My opinion of the university assessment

Not really, interesting courses. Well organized and lots of resources. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
The Dutch speak English better than most other European countries I have visited, so it made learning the language a little more difficult considering the natives would rather speak english to you than you speak dutch to them. Still, I found once a Ducth person saw your willingness to learn their language, they were very helpful, patient, and pleased. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal spending habits:
The rents and food are more expensive than at home and, of course, I travelled more in Holland. Moreover are there no student discounts for public transport as Dutch students don't have to pay anything (what, however, doesn't apply for foreign students) Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
don't use public transport, but buy yourself a cheap bike get yourself bonus cards (for free) at the supermarkets This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
by Irene, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain
Language, Erasmus
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Not really, I could handle the new environment pretty well... In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The campus of the UvA are spread through out the city, be prepared to bike! FINAL COMMENTS
Holland is a small country: you can discover many cities on one day trips. Night life in Amsterdam is great and there are lots of museums, markets, etc. You can also travel in Europe since they are centrally located. Be prepared to go everywhere by bike: rain, snow...doesn't matter! It's really fun :) But most of all, be open minded to learn new things about other cultures and languages.
