Living in Amsterdam is an experience itself. Wandering around the city is enough to enjoy it. Anyway, I strongly recommend to buy a bike and use it to go around. But take care of thieves! You should also buy a couple of good lockers to prevent your bike from being stolen when parked. The tram is also a good mean of transport. It goes everywhere and it is not expensive (as far as I remember). Obviously, there are some visits you are supposed to do: Dam Square, the heart of the city with the Royal Palace in one side; the famous Red Light District, which is more a touristic atraction than a neighbourhood of prostitution; a Coffe Shop, where joints are available in a menu (as in a restaurant)... A boat trip trough the canals is really worth it and nightlife is everywhere in the center of the city. Beyond nightlife, I must say that Amsterdam is a very cultural place. Its museums are excellent (Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Riks...) and it has also big and relaxing green areas to practice sports or just walking. Most of the people speak English and they are friendly to help visitors. There are plenty of Indonesian restaurants because Indonesia was a former dutch colony. You can try some of them but the food is very spicy. And don't miss the traditional pancake!

Trust me Guys, in Amsterdam you do not have to look for a nice palce to have a coffe, lunch or fancy dinner. You won't have any porblems with exporing the cultural side of the city or night life scene. It is very relaxed and entertainment driven city, so please do not forget what you coming here for:)

Highly recommendable is the Café De 2 Prinsen on the corner Prinsengracht/Prinsenstraat. It is a student place for mainly Dutch student (good place to meet locals) and they give student reduction on beer and wine and have a good selection of music. Small but very cosy and nice.

There were a lot of activities to do: parties for international students in the university, parties in private house, cruises on the canals, museums discounts, nice famous brown cafès and much more. The people there is fantastic! Friendly and open minded!

For the night out clubbing, 'mazzo' definetly is the spot. 'Cafe de Jaren' certainly is the most popular cafe though by far not the best. Check typical 'oud-bruin'-places at zeedijk or ' 't loosje' at nieuwemarkt. Check out 'Paradiso' frequently, too.

REVIEWS BY INTERNS AT Universiteit van Amsterdam
Structured but quite superficial
Really good structure in terms of what you have to do and how to do it. private banking itself was ultimately not my thing so the tasks weren't very challenging or inspiring to me. there was good encouragement and oppertunities to explore in other sectors in the bank which was very good. quite repetitive administrative work.
ABOUT
In 1632 the Athenaeum Illustre was founded in Amsterdam to educate students in Trade and Philosophy. As the establishment was not a proper university yet, lessons were generally given at the professors' homes. Until the nineteenth small institution with no more than 1877, the situation changed when the Athenaeum Illustre became the Universiteit van Amsterdam and was permitted to confer the highest educational degrees.
