HOUSING
by Heinz Michael, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Vienna, Austria

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? The convenience of living directly on campus should not be underestimated. It facilitates integration attempts and enforces a more vivid community life!
Personal comments:
The International House on the Campus of the U of A was great way to live although cleanliness could have been better and the room space was pretty limeted. But what makes this facility so special is its community, the people who live in there and the international spirit that can be felt in every corner of this house!!! STUDENT LIFE
by BeJoe, Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Vienna, Austria
Business Studies, exchange program
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Scholars at 87th Ave is a very nice Pub with good and cheap beer. Sugarbowl on 88th Ave is the best Cafe, you can study there for hours without being kicked out. The "one club" on Whyte Ave is good if you wanna go out with a group of friends, as it has a lot of space. But there are a lot of good places on Whyte Ave! ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
It is always helpful to check experience reports from previous exchange students. They provide interesting information about courses and teachers. I recommend to enroll in a course only after having checked the syllabus in order not to experience any unwelcome surprises.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
In my opinion academic life is very workintense as you have to write a lot of papers and you have to study hard for the midterms and finals. But if you set up a schedule and stick to it, you should be successful. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
In the beginning I had some troubles with understanding, but in the end, that was not a problem at all. It is not a shame if you have to ask several times if you don't understand something. They know it is not your first language and they are willing to help you! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Government assistance Home University Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Not living at home anymore means a lot more expenses. The prices are overall cheaper than in Austria! But didn't wanna miss the opportunities to travel or go out. Food, Travel, Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Overall, Housing: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Always bring TWO cards! Cerdit and bank card! If you lose one, you have at least another one! Subsrice for the UASIN newsletter at the international center, it is the best way to get second-hand everything from books to furniture! Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Actually I was pretty well informed beforehand. Furthermore the university offered orientation days where the most important information was provided. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Campus life is great and especially the International House offers a great cross cultural experience. I can highly recommend this university for everybody! I had a great time and don´t wanna miss at all. FINAL COMMENTS
If you want to travel a lot and see the nature and area around Edmonton it would be a good a idea to get togehter in small group and buy a cheap car together. As distances are very long and grocery shopping can be very exhausting an own car could boost convenience. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
