University of Bath
University of Bath, Claverton Down, BA2 7AY Bath, United Kingdom
Description:
Bath is one of the smaller universities in Britain, supporting a hard-working, hard-playing community. There is a predominant sense of participation across campus - social functions are usually sell-out affairs; music, drama and the arts are all flourishing; and there is a justifiably proud record of achievement in sport.

HOUSING
by FrancescoIII, Universität Passau, Passau, Germany
Management Science, Independent
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? To live in an independent Apartment/House is fine, but not in the town's suburbs, like I did. I would choose to live closer to the town center, so to have better connections to the university, to shops and to friends.
Personal comments:
It was very difficult to find a good apartment, because in England you can't find a housing if you are not in a group (and I came alone to Bath). The university does not give an apartment to exchange students who stay less than a year in Bath. But the accommodation office of the university provides everybody with a list of free apartments/rooms in Bath and surroundings. Prices for rooms are very high. Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Parade pub on campus, it is the best cafe to go and also the waiters are the best(I was working there). You shouldn´t miss the Roman Bath (amazing!), you should visit the Abbey and don´t forget the Circus Square and walk in the park close to the Circus This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
We only took business courses, and compared to the way we learned in the US, there was so much less interaction in the classroom. The professors basically lectured the entire time, and there was no application of material. I think that is just the way things are taught in the UK though (according to my friends who go to school there).
My opinion of the university assessment

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
The first weeks were really difficult but at the end was really easy to speak and to talk about me my experieces and my opinions. I was in Bath to write my thesis and at the end of my year I was able to read an english book without problem. All my bibliography was in english. I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Life is expensive in Bath, specially accomodation. I spent more in travel since I wanted to discover a lot of British cities. Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
The best to save money on food is to go to the Farmer market every saturday mornings. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I would have like to know how they taught the course. Most of the teachers do not usea corebook for their course, as they do in the Netherlands, but use articles instead. It is up to the student to get deeper in the subject by choosing its own materials (articles, books etc) In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Bath is a great city, but the university is very bureaucratic. But that doesn't stop you from going to Bath!!! FINAL COMMENTS
Bath is a great city. Believe all the stories of others who say that Bath is beautiful and be prepared to be still astonished by its beauty This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
