University of Helsinki
Helsingin Yliopisto, Yliopistonkatu 4 - P.O. Box 33, 00014 Helsinki, Finland
Description:
The University of Helsinki (Helsingin yliopisto) is the oldest and largest university in Finland. It was founded in 1640 as the "Academy of Turku"; Turku being the former capital of Finland, which was then part of the Swedish realm. After Finland was annexed to the Russian Empire in 1809, the capital was moved to Helsinki. In 1827 the University was transferred to Helsinki, where it opened the following year under the name of the Imperial Alexander University, after the Russian Czar Alexander the Second. It was the only university in Finland until 1919.

If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? I prefer, the easy accessibilty to the department or the work place and the working environment.
Personal comments:
The housing is good and the accomodation is near to the department. Being the student apartment, it gives a sort of satisfaction. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The room for me was cheaper as in France I live in a private one room flat. The food is not expensive especially at the university cafeteria. The traveling was easy and there are cheap prices for students for the bus and train network. than you can take the boat and go to Estonia or Stockholm. for the nightlife, entries for students are cheap in students parties and you get cheap price as well if you go to the opera for example. Travel: was more expensive than at home. Food, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Nightlife, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
you have to pay all your bills by wiring through bill machine or internet but only through finnish bank accounts. That means that you have to open a bank account, it is compulsory. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
No, I knew already where I would live before leaving which made me feel secured a lot! In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
This university offers good courses for exchange students and great facilities(libraries, the main library is a wonderful one! you have access to internet everywhere!) FINAL COMMENTS
Helsinki is a very good city for a foreign student. It is the capital and at the same time not too big, you don't get lost. So for people wanting to live in the city and having the nature nearby that is the place to go. The winter is cold but you find easily things to do to enjoy it! Finnish people at the ESN network did a really great job to organise events and to make us feel at home. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
