HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I had the opportunity to share the appartment with 6 native English speakers, while most students who rented an accomodation on campus were living with other Erasmus students. I believe that my choice was the best way to improve my language skills and to be close with natives.
Personal comments:
The university was very helpful to provide informations regarding student accomodations, even private ones. According to my own experience, I would recommend candidates to hire a private accomodation, that mostly proved cheaper. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
The history and american studies departments are both good and well organized. Unfortunantlythe university has cut funding for degree programs in foreign languages. Hence, access to certain langage courses is more limited starting in thge 2001-2002 accademic year. However the Language Institute is very good and has lots of resources for 60 something languages and they teach beggining through advanced levels in several languages that can be taken as part of a degree or as an extra course. Course are offered in languages as diverse as Spanish, French, Itallian, Japanese, Chinese, Dutch and German to name a few. There is also English for accademic purposes for non native speakers of English.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Note that thge forms and typew of assesment can be diffent depending on your department(s). Ask questions and be sure to follow your departments guidelines. Make sure you find out who your personal supervisor is and how to reach them in case you need to ask for anything In terms of departmental/exams policies. The secrataries in the departments can also be a wealth of info when your stuck and don't know what to do. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Telephone charges were more expensive not because I called home often, but because they charge you local calls and supposedly "toll-free" calls. And travel is more expensive because so many different countries and cultures are so close by. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
I was very surprised at how expensive it was to transfer money internationally from bank to bank. I would suggest putting whatever money you need into an account that is accessible by ATM, then take the cash out and deposit it into a British account that way. . FINAL COMMENTS
At the University of Hull, I really found a friendly and attractive campus, with excellent facilities such as libraries, a computer centre and a language Institute (there, I had the opportunity to improved my Spanish) Add to it extensive sport facilities, an amazing number of 75 clubs and societies, and I am sure you will certainly find your happiness there! It was a real cosmopolitan experience : 10% of the students are coming from more than 100 countries. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
