Description:
More than a hundred years after its creation, The University of Liverpool is an internationally renowned seat of learning, a true centre of excellence. We have over 13,000 full time students, around 1,000 of whom are from overseas, in faculties covering a wide spread of academic disciplines: Medicine, Arts, Law, Science, Engineering, Veterinary Science and Social and Environmental Studies. Research plays a major role in our mission and, as just one example of that, we gained over £36m by way of research grants this year.

HOUSING
by Anna, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Bochum, Germany
History, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Shared house
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Shared house/flat
Why? It is useful to share a house, because you get to know some people right from the start, which is very nice for doing things together and going out in a city, where you don't know anyone.
Personal comments:
We had to find accomodation within two days. That was very stressfull, but I think in the end everyone can manage, because help is provided by the university. I found the average rent rather expensive, even though I was living in a not especially safe area. But it was alright, because there were a lot of other european students living close by, which was good for getting to know people and sharing taxi. STUDENT LIFE

History, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city:
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There are so many places to go in Liverpool! You can go out and have a great night out the whole week through. I personally liked the Magnet for dancing a lot. Generally the majority of places are for having a loud night out, with dancing, drinking, socialising. The more quiet places for just sitting down and having a chat are harder to find in the evenings. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The level was in general lower than at home, particularly the possibity to hand over some homework as final mark in eon topic makes the task much easier than at home university. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
L´pool is a very peculiar place and they speak with a strong accent that makes difficult to understand the locals. At university was fine since people tend to be morer educated and concerned that foreigners may have some trouble hearing certain words, accents... EXPENSES
by Anna, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Bochum, Germany
History, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Because almost everything was more expensive plus a not so good exchange rate. In addition I still wanted to see and expierience some of Liverpool/Britian, rather than sit at home and save money all the time. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Someone told me, that the Deutsche Bank is working together with Barclays, so that it is possible to withdraw money from your German account without paying for it. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
