Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
It is cheaper and nearer to school. Besides, it helps to make friends in the school.

Personal comments
The building I stayed was not really beautiful, actually. There would be more beautiful accommodations in Manchester. But the people living there were so cool, furthermore, the location was perfect. It was really near from both the uni and the city center. I took all the profit of the accommodation. I made lots of friends there, and I stayed at school, then went to the city center to have a drink with flatmates... I had a wonderful time. I could improve my English a lot since we cooked together, ate together, then talked a lot till late at night. I think that it is a very good idea to stay in a school accommodation rather than a flat if you want to improve your language and to make lots of friends.

Academic
Course recommendations
I did not have to take courses since I joined a research project. However, the classes were really interesting for me. The lectures were always pretty well- organised. i did not have chances to communicate with teachers or lecturers there. But now I think that I should hae been more active for communicating with the teachers and the students.

If you are going to join a research project, it is better to concentrate on the project. It would be too hard if you are going to join a courses with practicals and reports.

Personal recommendation
There are lots of other interesting places and things in MAnchester... So, it may look like the uni is too boring and tidious for you. But the university is a real good one in U.K. Pleas eenjoy yourself and keep yourself busy.

Personal spending habits
Food in the U.K. is much cheaper than in Japan. Traveling around is not so cheap as in Japan. However, I traveled so much and went out at night a lot, so totally, it was more expensive for me to live in MAnchester than in JApan.

The exchange rates are so important. You had better watch out. When I arrived there, 1 pound costed 150 yen. However, now it costs 200 yen! It can be a real big difference. YOu had better pay attention to the exchange rates.

Personal comments
In the first few month, I had lots of difficulities to talk to my flatmates or the lab members. However after a few months, I could realise that I had improved my English a lot. I was too shy at the beginning, but as time went by, I felt easier and more confortable to speak English.
