University of Melbourne (UM)

University of Melbourne, Parkville, VIC 3010, Australia
4.10 / 5 based on 120 reviews.
Description:
Established in 1853, Melbourne University was Victoria's first and Australia's second university when it opened in 1855. Its construction was made possible by the new wealth created in Victoria as a result of the gold rush. One of the early objectives was to improve the moral fibre of colonists, although equality with Sydney was just as important.

The University boomed after World War 2, starting an expansion program in terms of courses and facilities that continues today and has resulted in the University of Melbourne becoming one of the largest in Victoria.
