There was a great Jazz cafe, called Henry's, which had life music every Tuesday. There were many international students but also many Americans. The atmosphere was always great, very laid back. Chapel Hill also has a host of wonderful, slightly alternative, privately owned (no chains!) lunch cafe's and coffee houses.

Chapel Hill is an exciting university town in a beautiful location. It is infamous for 'Franklin St', a long street with hip bars and cafes. It is especially busy round Halloween when hundreds of inerstate visitors join in the festivities. Only drawback is you may need a car to get out to the supermarket etc.

Get involved in one of the many student associations (NOT fraternities/ sororities) on campus; it's the best way to meet the locals fast and there's often fun opportunities to travel with these groups. Chapel Hill also offers many free lectures by visiting scientists, writers, etc. These are very much worth visiting!

It's well located to go to the main cities. It's a great experience, and the social life is the best you can find. you have the right to attend basket ball games for free, so do not hesitate to wake up early to get your ticket.

If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?

The dorm was the best place to stay on campus. Even though the room isn't too big and I had to share a bathroom with 7 other girls, it was a great place to meet people.

Housing
Type of housing: First on campus, then off.
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
When I lived oncampus I felt cramped, I shared room with one girl and bath with seven others, so I moved off after only one semester and didn't regret it. But it is better to live oncampus if you don't know many people, you make friends faster.
