It was a great experience but I didn't really enjoy the academic part that was too much academic for me: lots of theories, books to read, essaies to discuss. I went to Nottingham after having worked one year for a company, it was very good, it may be the reason of my difficulty to go back university. I enjoy travelling and meeting foreign students (Asian in particular), it was the most interesting part of my year. Read Review

HOUSING
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I would like to have the same kind of accommodation but maybe not so far as the city centre and the majority of the students. The location of my house was a secure area but it wasn't a student area, which was difficult to go out with friends.
Personal comments:
There are many choices of accommodations but if you study in Jubilee Campus, you have to be carefull to think about what you would like before making a decision: to be near the campus or near the majority of the students. Both areas are quite far from each other.

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
For people who like travelling, Nottingham is a very good place because we aren't far from the other cities: Liverpool, London, Bath, Cardiff, Glasgow, ... Many places around Nottingham: Lincoln, Cadbury factory, Stratford-upon-Avon, and many castles so English.

ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses

Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Be carefull not to take too much courses with essay because it's lots of work.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course

Personal comments:
The improvement should come from my home university that asked too many credits for me. 60 credits were too much (it usually represents 6 modules) and I didn't have time to take an English course to improve my English as I would have liked.

I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Personal comments:
For me, the most difficult was really the beginning. I knew this, that's why I decided to register for an English course (CELE Course) for one month before the beginning of the terms. It was really good because I practised academic, social and everyday English. It was during this course that I met many foreign studients.

Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.

Money from home
Main source of funding:
Personal savings
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work
Personal spending habits:
The pound was very high when I arrived in England (£1=FFR12), that's I spent more. Moreover, the food and accommodations are more expensive in England than France, especially if sometimes you want to eat French food!!
Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
none

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
Maybe the fact that it was so long to transfer some money from France to England. I had to borrow money, which wasn't a nice experience.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Don't hesitate to go there but be careful not to take too many modules with essay, it's easier to have time to go out, travel and speak English. English isn't only in the books.
