Description:
Oxford is a unique and historic institution. As the oldest English-speaking university in the world, it lays claim to eight centuries of continuous existence.
Since WWII, Oxford has added to its humanistic core a major new research capacity in the natural and applied sciences, including medicine. In so doing, it has enhanced and strengthened its traditional role as a focus for learning and a forum for intellectual debate.

Go! Don't let anything/one scare you off if you really want it. I went in the year of Mad Cow, etc. So we couldn't hike- we found more than enough other things to do. Read Review

Personal comments:
We had 2 per room, with sink and small closets, and 1 desk. Each side of room had a light.

Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
My roommate and I travelled every chance we got-- set up tours, took buses to Heritage houses, took the local bus to London to the Glob theatre. It was very easy to travel, and we walked around Oxford. I loved the charity shops, tea room, shops, and covered shopping center.

ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
We were on a self-contained course, so didn't interact with others, outside of our research project (which included an interview project). This year I am going back with a different school, to a different Oxford college, and looking ford to seeing the differences, as the programs on set up differently. One of the pluses for this was that our professor arranged an "insider's tour" of the BBC radio.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
I liked the readings, journal writings, interactive discussions, graduate project and field trips. It was not too taxing for a summer course, yet I learned alot, and luckily didn't need computer access.

Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Personal comments:
Our course was the study of language and communications, with special discussions about the similarities and differences between our countries. I learned alot, and enjoyed the research- all the tv, magazines, newspapers, radio, and ads that I could possibly want....

Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Government assistance
Other sources of funding:
student loan/credit card
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
I spent more, but we squeezed in quite a bit of organizaed travel-- saw most of the highlights between Oxford, London,Bath, Windsor, Canterbury, and on to Paris.
Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
One of the undergrads wasn't prepared for the higher costs, and ran out of money halfway through the trip. Also, we were responsible for all meals on weekends. (Pizza Hut was the only place open late...).
