HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I REALLY LIKED SHARING THE SAME HOUSE WITH FOUR PEOPLE. WE BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS AFTER ALL. I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE BY LIVING IN A HOUSE
Personal comments:
ACTUALLY THE FIRST TIME I STUDIED IN PORTSMOUTH I HAD COME WITH A ERASMUS GRANT, IN 1999. I STAYED IN A HALL OF RESIDENCE CALLED BURREL HOUSE, BEHIND THE NOTORIOUS REES HALL. THE FACILITIES AND FOOD PROVIDED WERE QUITE GOOD, THOUGH I PREFER LIVING INDEPENDENTLY IN A HOUSE RATHER THAN BEING ATTACHED TO A TIMETIBLE INA HALL OF RESIDENCE This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Business Studies, University Agreement
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
To watch sport events, The Festing is a great pub on Albert road Then, best places are the Shepherd or the Wakeabout near Guidhall walk. Finally, most of Portsmouth's students spend their night at the student union but I advice to go to the Scandals ( a latino nightclub) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I was part of a programme where you couldn't select your courses so no recommendations really....
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Presentations too often, not the best way to learn if don excessively (one per subject, so after the second week seminars are basically student presentations) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I live with a British family. Therefore I have to communicate with them every day. Besides, I work as a volunteer for a local nursery school and all staff and children are local people, so I have to speak to them in English. As well in the university, I have to speak in English with my tutor and international students. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
I worked, but it was illegal/cash in hand work Personal spending habits:
The fees for food, telephone and accommodation in England are higher than those in China. Therefore, I spent more money on them. As for travel, it is easier for me to get visa of European countries in England than in China. So I have more chances to travel. Regarding with Nightlife, the nightlife is less interesting in England than in China, so I spend less time on it. Food, Travel, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Overall: was the same price as at home. Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you have an international student card, you will get surprisely cost-saving when you travel. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
