Places not to be missed outside of Kunming. Defenitely go to Li Jiang (small chinese village preserved by UNESCO) this is china as you've dreamed to see it. You can stop in Dali which is on the way from Kunming to Li Jiang to see cormoran fishing on the lake, it's worth it. If you have more time, take the round trip ride on the little train that goes from Kunming to "Hekou" (on the boarder with Vietnam). It was built buy french people in the 40's. Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? For the price they made us pay for a tiny and dirty room that we shared between the three fo us, we could have had a huge and nice appartment downtown.
Personal comments:
Communist radio information at 5am, every morning, on the campus, through big speakers, to wake you up!! The price we paid for a tiny room was robery compared to normal rates downtown! And last but not least, people in China always want to know where you go and what you're doing exactly (communist attitude) so people responsible for our stay in the University would treat us like little kids. But at the same time it was also a great experience to share every day life, of thousands of Chinese students that where living on the campus.

Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city:
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Not much to say about night life. Though I love to go out, this city doesn't have many places for students to go out. There were a couple of places close to the university where all foreign students and chinese that could speak english or french would meet; but everything in Kunming is knocked down and rebuilt so fast it would have changed by now.
