Initially i thought that i know english well as it was my language of instruction throughout my academic life. But after coming here i am not able to understand this local scottish accent and it has taken sometime for me to adjust. Now i am pretty confident that i can understand any english accent as i am able to understand different international students english accent.I feel studying at a foriegn university has gave me this opportunity and in addition to this my presentation skills has improved a lot and i no longer need to fear if someone ask me to give a presentation.I am able to come over from my fear and i feel more confident now.

Scottish accent is very strong, so surely you will find problem to understand what local people are saying at the first time. As the university classes I attended were directed mainly by Scottish Professors, at the beginning it was complicated, but just a bit later I started to imporve the listening. And do not forget that Scottish are much more friendly than English!!! They will help you by repeat the word and try to use different words you are more confortable.

Locals from Glasgow have a very special accent which sometimes makes the communication quite complicated. However, they are nice people and try to help you understand them. Moreover, you will normally interact with other students or universtity staff who speak stardard English

It was relatively easy to adapt myself in the host country and the university. There were some problems with the Scottisch accent in social life outside the university, but this was only in the beginning. I am convinced that I have developed my English in the end.

Alloverall communication among the students and locals is very good, its only sometime that the teachers are busy for students, as they sometime does not give enough time to students you need them at a particaul moment.

ABOUT
The University of Strathclyde was founded in 1796 as Anderson's Institution. From its foundation the University was different from the other, much older, universities in Britain; it aimed at a wider range of students and a broader variety of subjects, especially those concerned with 'useful learning'.

The University of Strathclyde has two campuses: the John Anderson Campus in the centre of Glasgow, where the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Engineering, Science and the Strathclyde Business School are located, and the Jordanhill Campus, with our Faculty of Education, in the west end of the city.
