Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I prefer to live with 1 or 2 people and have my own kitchen and toilet. It is more independent.

In Tampere all the student housing it done by TOAS, it is cheap and easy. Maybe it is not very centric but it's good enough. The most central location that they give to exchange students is Läpinkääri. It's more similar to a residence and some people likes it a lot, I have to say that the area is very nice but the rooms are small.

Ruma was for me the best nightclub, but it was because of the music (I really loved it). Th point of the city is that there are a lot of clubs and they are very differents, you can spend and enjoy one night in a techno disco and the following day in a salsa pub. You can't miss the Vappu, the party of the first of May in which students spend three days in the street having fun. You can even "be baptized" in the river of the town in a traditional act for the students of first year or exchange students. Visit Lapland, Russia and the Baltics and do the trip by boat to Stockholm with the SeaBattle.

The bus is very expensive. Twice than Italy. Instead the train and the extraurban bus are cheaper with the student card. Tips: hold everytime your student card.

The university of Tampere is a very good place for international students. You can find here a lot of native speakers and well-qualified professors. The knowlege which I got here is vey prctical and you do not have to learn everything by heart.

Final comments
Go to Tampere! It is a splendid place to study, to travel (you should go to Helsinki, Rovaniemi,St.Petesburg, Stokholm). But prepare yorselves for much higher expanses, especially if you are from Westeurope.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
Such an arrangement would really let me get to know Finnish people. However, many Finns are quite private, I am not sure how well a family would cope with an 'outsider'.

The housing, while I was there, was handled by a company independent of the University. They were very professional and it was quite challenging, to work with the staff. However, they were professional and spoke very good english.

The main reason is evident: Finland is more expensive than Spain, specially in food and drinks. I spent more in travelling just because in Spain I din't travel and in telephone because it is more expensive make international phones (but I spent less money when I phoned with my finnish number to finnish numbers too. The housing was cheaper because of the model of housing for students in Finland.
