apart from housing, things are not neccessarily that much more expensive, it's just that you tend to do more stuff when you're abroad
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.

go bulk and buy at street markets or supermarkets instead of convenience stores

I wish I had known...
it's 'thongs', not 'flip-flops'! also, it helps to read up on the different suburbs beforehand, so you have a general idea about where you want to live
