HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? when you live in your own apartment you start seeing things in a different way. A new country and the responsabilities that came with your independency really makes a change in your perspective of life.
Personal comments:
UTB has not count with dorms. It is a little bit difficult to find a place to live if you do not know anyone in the city. Although as soon as you find a place to live you can enjoy the city and the friendly people. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
6th street has something for everyone and it is almost impossible to mention any one place in particular. We usually met up at the Aquarium and continoued from there. Personally I did one thing wrong: I did not spend enough time exploring the musical venues and the hidden secrets of Austin. Got to know places such as the Elephant room - a lovely jazz place - first in my last two weeks. Try to stear away from the beaten tracks once in a while and you will be amazed about what the town can offer!Austin is wonderful! My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Professor Oran Brigham's courses is absolutely highly recommended. A lot of work but it is worth while. I had him in both strategy and entrepreneurship.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Not really. It is just diffenret from how things are done in Europe. Something are better and somethings are not. The exams are sometimes a little less challenging then what I am used to and they come more often. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I really improve my English. The academic English level that the courses required make me improve my writing and my verbal English skills. Classmates, friends and the people at the comunity were a great help. Every body were so friendly ... that is an important point when you are trying to communicate in a second language. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Bank loans Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I changed my lifestyle somewhat when I came to Austin. Due to the relatively short stay we wanted to get the most out of everything and that comes with a cost. Accomodation however was due to higher average costs. Nightlife, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Travel, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you rent furniture - locate the Aaron Rents outlet where they have used furniture. Will cut you costs substantially - at least 50%. Also, be careful about what services you ask for fromt the telephone companies. They try to make you think that you need all kinds of expensive services when what you really need is only a line. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
My personal packing experiences: I took WAY TO MANY books with me (you really find stuff to read at once, if you like reading! - if you ever have the time, anyway.. :-)); but I didn't take bedsheets or towels, which I could have used well. In general, don't take to much (I came with one suitcase and it was enough) and think of the warmth - you really only need one warm jacket and something for the occasional thunderstorms with rain (if you should ever choose to go out during one of these extraordinary phenomenons..), the rest of the time you will wear light clothing. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Austin is a very liberal city, with a lot of students and fun people, who do their best to "keep Austin weird" (as it says on many t-shirts!). In addition, the courses I took were of very high quality and really interesting. If that sounds appealing to you, then go for it! FINAL COMMENTS
I bought a bike in the beginning of the semester and used it ALL the time (I lived very close to campus, though). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
