University of Vermont (UVM)
University of Vermont, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 194 South Prospect Street, Burlington, VT 05401, U.S.A., United States
Description:
Uvm was chartered in 1791 (the same year that Vermont became the 14th state in the union). It was the first college or university in the country to declare in its charter that the "rules, regulations, and by-laws shall not tend to give preference to any religious sect or denomination whatsoever" -- a clear assertion of UVM's commitment to equality and enlightenment. The primary purpose of The University of Vermont is to create and share knowledge. UVM prepares its students to live productive, responsible, and creative lives through a high quality, liberal education. As a research university, UVM endorses the intrinsic value of the creation of new knowledge and promotes the application of relevant knowledge to benefit a multi-dimensional and global society.

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I'd have more space and wouldn't have to share a room with a roommate, could select the suitemates I lived with
Personal comments:
In L/L residental halls newly renovated suites, pretty nice, although small rooms; good located, close to all departments, gym, and dining halls This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
A course based system like everywhere in the US, very much like "school" to me with lots of homework, quizzes, exams, papers, ... Be quick if you want to register for courses like photography or film.
My opinion of the university assessment

It is all right, the workload during the semester is quite a lot, but no problem. You are sill left with enough time to party! Overall it was not to challenging, but good fun! I really loved some of my courses. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I spoke English before pretty good, visited United States couple times before. Didn't have any problems. There was a possibility to take an English Course for international students at UVM though. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
by Luke, University of Sussex, Brighton, United Kingdom
History, Independent
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
That I would meet so many good friends, I would have lost some before going to make more there. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Get over the cold an move on to downtown. FINAL COMMENTS
Don't get caught up spotting how different this is from home. That's why you go! It can for a few seconds get you down that there are strange rules that you don't have at home, but they are easy to get over. The only people who did not enjoy their time at UVM, were the ones that could not let go of the familiar, and wanted to have their hand held by the university all the time. Remember, some times you just have to role with the punches. My last rant now: come here and you will have fun. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
