University of Westminster

115 New Cavendish Street, W1M 8JS LONDON, United Kingdom
3.91 / 5 based on 294 reviews.
Description:
The University of Westminster is located in the heart of central London, close to the bustling shopping areas of Oxford Street and Regent Street. In fact, our main headquarters building is located on Regent Street itself and dates back to the foundation of the institution, then the Royal Polytechnic in 1838. Additionally, we have a large campus in Harrow, slightly out of the centre of town, which offers a greener environment where students can study in brand new purpose built teaching accommodation. Our international reputation dates from our founding years as the first ever polytechnic to the present day as one of Britain's largest universities with around 19,000 students studying a wide range of full- and part-time courses.
The University has four campuses. Three located in central London and one in Harrow, suburban North West London.

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because it's easier to meet other students and exchange ideas with them and hopefully also study together. Besides, there is all you need there: PC rooms, a library, a bar and a canteen.
Personal comments:
Accomodation was fine, the student house was clean and quiet, although the standard is not the same for all the student houses of this University. I think that the accomodation, in general, is quite expensive.

Type of housing: Hall of Residence

If returning, I would choose: Hall of Residence
Why? Although the services could have been better, I had the privacy of a single room and, at the same time, I could be with other young people.
Personal comments:
I had difficulties in getting a place in a hall of residence, but afterwards everything was right:I make a lot of friends and the staff was nice. However, some things such as the cleaning service should be improved.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Although you get in touch with a lot of other students, you have not that much privacy that is sometimes needed. And therefore an own apartment/house would be better for me, as I can also choose the people I want to live with.
Personal comments:
I can really say that I liked living in the halls, although of the reasons mentioned above. I had a good time there.

Personal comments:
Though the halls of residence in England are of a lower standard than ours in Germany, it was great to live there and i can recommend it to every student. The community was incredible and i had the possibility to learn a lot about different cultures.

Why? - I would be able to share the cost of living; - To meet new people (flat mates); - Feel confortable as living in my own country; - be part of neighbourwood/ community, - as many more...
Personal comments:
The house i was living in was located in London, Canada Water tube station. In my opinion it was very well located, around 25 minutes from university. It was in the dockland`s area, near from the city just in font of the Millenium Dome. It wasn`t new, but cosy, nice and clean. All means of transportion were very close. I was sharing it with other four mates. I met them there, and they were also university students, but from different courses (Masters). Although we were all from different nationalities , Germany, USA, Portugal, and UK, it didn`t take long to form a family. It was a very rewarding experience and a lot of knowledge (culture, academic, social, religion) was also shared. At the house everyone got a room for himself, there were two bathrooms and a kitchen for all of us. We also had a backyard where we use to do barbeques. Indeed it was a very pleasent experience.

Why? I would definitely return to the halls, since it is the perfect place to get to know students from all over the world.
Personal comments:
The hall was situated in a safe and central neighbourhood of London. Access to the Campus, the main cultural sites, underground etc. was easy and perfect. Wlan was provided as well. Although the hall itself compared to halls in Austria was not that comfortable, getting to know different cultures and students from abroad and studying together with them, made the study abroad experience unforgettable.
