Personal assessment

KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.

Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because of the independency and the chance to meet other people. Living in a shared apartment gives you a lot more knowledge of the people you are "visiting" than living on your own in a single room.
Personal comments:
There is plenty of different opportunities - it really depends on what one likes. There is shared apartements, international housing, single rooms and a kind of dormitories.

Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Personal comments:
The City and stillwaters are two bars that you dont want to miss - people are probably more eastcoasters than westcoasters - if you are more to dance music there is a place behind capitol toward Lake Mendota (cant remeber the name). Then there is all the sport - Go to Kole center for tickets to ice hockey, football etc. dont miss football - the badgers are awesome and the stadium is always full of happy student (app. 50000 of them!!!). Kole center is also a place for lots of concerts - elton john and back street boys played when i was there.

My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
UW, Madison was recently rated 7th best US public University for their marketing courses at the undergraduate level. I took two, they were both awesome.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
Multiple choice exams for all tests does not show you how good the student really is. The type of definition-like questions make the students that can memorize look very good and the students that can use the theories in abstract combination, intellectually, look bad. That is a shame.

Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your English?
My level before:
My level after:
Personal comments:
I came there with a very good proficiency in English but only from movies, books and my work. Interacting with more Americans in a social scene brought me into the contemporary English used by young people. About communications, my period in Madison taught me a lot about the American culture which I believe is a key factor in effictive communications.
