No, it wasn't.

Personal comments
Knowing Swedish would have definitely been helpful and would have made my experience more of a cultural treat than it already was, however I was able to get by quite easily only speaking English.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Personal savings
Other sources of funding:
Family
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits
Although I did spend more than I normally would in most of these areas, it is understandable, as I wanted to take full advantage of being in a new country. That said, bring lots of money to Sweden because it does hurt your pocket book - gotta love those taxes.

Food, Telephone, Nightlife, Travel, Overall:
was more expensive than at home.
Housing:
was the same price as at home.
Accessibility of student needs
Second-hand household items
Personal comments
Transportation was much more expensive than I expected on several fronts; public busses were incredibly so (even after living in New York City), and buying a bike to get around on is reasonable, but only if your lucky enough to buy just one (buy a good lock).

Overall
I wish I had known...
It would have been nice to know more about the local culture, nightlife and accommodations… just to get a better feel for things, more of a comfort level than anything else. This could have easily been done had I know someone there or who had been there recently.

In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Overall the university met and even exceeded my expectations. The only point that I would like to make is that if finances are a major concern, it may be best to either save more than you anticipate to spend, or look around.

During my experience abroad, I ...
(1) Never – (4) A lot
Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
I can honestly say that this international experience has changed my life for the better. My perceptions of what goes on the in the world are not just from my nations point of view any longer. Having friends from many different countries and wanting them to be successful and happy, forces one to look at things from their point of view. This experience opens a whole new world and I have yet to meet anyone who has thought otherwise.
Go with an open mind and you'll enjoy the experience.

Personal social experience
Personal comments
It seemed that there was something to do every night of the week. The way this works at Uppsala is that everyone is required to join a nation, which is basically a club for students from a particular region. Once you arrive you will need to get a hold of a little pocket calendar which outlines the weekly social events held by each nation - comes in quite handy. Just as an FYI, I went with V-Dala and had a great time (International students get to freely choose among the nations).

Housing
Type of housing: Dorm type setting
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Although it would have been nice to have housing closer to classes (I was in Flogsta), I may have missed the opportunity to share this experience with those in my corridor. With friends from many different countries just next door, it was as if the world was just a few steps away.

Personal comments
The actual rooms were basic and quite small, however being in that kind of environment made the tradeoff well worth it.
