HOUSING
by Christina, FH Joanneum, Graz, Austria
Management Science, University Agreement
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It was a lot of fun, as many students lived there. I got to know students from a lot of different countries which was an extraordinary experience.
Personal comments:
I am very glad that I did not chose to live at the housing provided by the university. It was far away from the city center and not very clean. Our housing instead was very clean, located close to the city center and there were a lot of students from different universities and different countries This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
Place not to be missed are Brunswick and Lygon Streets, Melbourne offers permanently festivals here and there and they are all worth having a look. The great Ocean Road, Philip Island and Wilsons Promontory are unfortunately further away, but definitely worth seeing. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
chose courses for higher semesters, they are much better organised and of higher quality too.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The assingments and assesments are of an overwhelming quantity. Could be a bit less without loosing any quality of the courses. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I was able to improve my english in all situations. At the beginning, my vocabulary was very business specific, but during my studies I had to use it in everyday life too and this was very useful. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
in general living costs in melbourne are very low, never the less nightlife seems so be more expensive depending on how much you are used to spend on a night out at home Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
try to buy groceries from the markets in Footscray (much cheaper then supermarkets), when setting up a bank account at home watch out for australian partner banks so you don't have to pay fees for getting money out of the atms This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had known more about the culture and the weather. I wasn't quite aware that most of my "knowledge" were prejustices. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Chose courses of higher semesters! FINAL COMMENTS
I am really glad and grateful that I had the possibility to study abroad. I very much enjoyed my stay in Australia and made a lot of new friends. The most important person at VUT was Herta Derrij, the International Coordinator! She was extraordinary helpful and friendly and overall is a very lovely person. A final advice for all other students: Australia is BIG!!!! From Melbourne to Adelaide it takes you ca. 12 hours by bus. Australia is a very VARYING country! In Melbourne for example it is very cold in winter! Overall: Have fun!!!! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
