HOUSING
by Firas, i did not attend uni there, amman, Jordan
Communication and Information Sciences, Bas.
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Rooms are no where near SOUND PROOF,
its like you are living with ten other
people. You can hear anything going on
in the next two rooms, god forbid they
like music, or tv!
Personal comments:
i have to admit the facilities are not that good, but we had activities, and help to available to all who need it. Housing at this university is hard to get in to if you are not a first year student, but once you get in and get to know the people its all good. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Toronto is a great place if you like to go to clubs! Richmond Street and John Street are the best places to go out. If the weather is nice don't forget to go to the Beaches in the East part of Toronto. If you want to eat at a really cheap price go to Korean Town. To shop go to the Eaton Center or to Queen Street (my favorite street). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
The language was a little bit of a concern before leaving because, although my knowledge was fair (I graded 590 at TOEFL), I did not have much conversational experience, nor I had taken any course in english. Anyway while facing some issues during the first couple of weeks, improvements were continuous and allowed me to gain a level of proficiency good enough not only for social situation but also for conducting business This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
ZAS Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I would suggest that although price levels differ within the categories the overall price level is pretty much the same as in Austia, main reason why I spent more money than at home where my housing expenses (location, downtown Toronto) Food, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
an account at the Deutsche Bank gives you the possibility to withdraw money from cash dispensers of a certain canadian bank (scotia bank) without additional fees This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had known about the unsettled state of University/teaching staff relations. After the strike was suggested it bacame apparant that there was a history of disputes, which was well known in the local community. In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Make sure there is no talk of a strike. If there is do your best to carry on the work, but don't miss the opportunity to get out and enjoy yourself on Toronto or Canada because its a wonderful place to be. FINAL COMMENTS
Get involved in as many campus activities as possible. It's not as central to the city as may first appear so make the most of the social events/sports on campus and with the friends made enjoy the city (many of the campus bars were shut Friday-Sunday!!).
