Language of instruction was English, so no problems at all. Hungarian was only needed in the street, I did some language courses to learn a bit more than the basics, to get around etc. and that was a very good experience. Just adds a lot to you understanding of life and culture if you speak the local language (a bit). However, Hungarian is amongst the most difficult languages and nobody else except Hungarians speak it, so lots of dedication is in order!

I wish I had known...
always apply for full grant! There's a fair chance you get it at CEU. I have been to modest and asked for 80% reduction of tuition fee only. Sure I could have gotten more.

outside beergardens from May onwards, all summer. For insiders only, not in guidebooks, ask Hungarians or go to universities. Buddha Beach great club, area between Petofi Hid and Szabadsaghid in general good place to be in the night.
