As many of you know, Prague is a very cheap city. It is very cheap to eat, drink, and go out. A very practical reason to spend some time there!

Many young students in The Czech Republic speak limited English and this made thing a bit easier but overall I was disappointed in the fact there ws no effort made by the staff to intergrate the curriculum with The Czech language. Socially speaking the language situation was not so tough because in the summer there are so many students in Prague and many speak English. Most restaurants speak English.

Charles University is very small and totally unlike any university in the US so don't expect rolling hills and grassy knolls.

Final comments
If you go to Prague take it easy and go with the flow. Don't stand out like a sore thumb!! Try to blend in a bit and don't make a fuss when it takes 45 minutes for your food to be brought to your table or when there's no ice in your coke. If you are uptight, don't go!! Prague is a very relaxed city and tight lips aren't tolerated!!

Academic
Course recommendations
Well, the courses I took were pretty bad and taught by American professors except for one. The music appreciation class was pretty cool and being in such a musically significant settin helped. The magazine writing class was alright but Professor Moreau is pretty boring. The history of Czech was cool but very inconclusive because we spent so little time in class due to the Czech professor's limited schedule. Overall the class options are average.

Personal comments
Yeah, The expectations of the professors were fair but I don't know how they expected us, the students to really learn much. Prague is such a rich city it was hard to focus on our studies.

By far the best place to hang out in Prague is Radost FX. Radost FX is a cafe/restaurant/disco that is very trendy and has great food and drink. very night downstairs they have different dj's of various styles from hip-hop to house. Always a young crowd and it's a good opportunity to meet other locals and other travelers as well. The menu is vegetarian so don't expect any bloody steaks. All the servers speak english so don't be afraid to open your mouth!

The Machova Pension in Praha 3 was a small family run operation. The rooms were a bit small but comfortable. The location was perfect, we were very close to the metro. The staff was very friendly and corteous but be careful when you stay out too late, you might get locked out!!!!!
