If you're a french speaking student who wants to really improve his english forget it. There are far too many french people and you cannot really do without them, more, nearly all the students in Concordia speak also french. However the courses will permit you to practice english.

I would say that life in Montreal is a bit cheaper than in most european countries. Going out is less expensive and you will surely spare money with the appartement.

You will fastely see that Concordia likes your money. You'll have to pay for everything you ask them. It is because Canadian Universities lack money since the governement is decreasing its grants. Bank services are also a bit more expensive than in Europe.

Personal recommendation
I know all the universities in Montreal quite well. I would say that Concordia distinguishes itself by it's multicultural aspect, most of the students are immigrants or children of immigrants. This diversity is also true concerning their age. This makes this university a really diverse one very representative of the reality of Montreal. I liked Montreal a lot. It's not the nicest city in the world but life there is really enjoyable. A proof of this ? I am back there, studying in HEC. Convinced ? Don't hesitate to contact me for questions.

Final comments
There are interesting cities to see : Quebec city (very, very nice : try to visit it for the carnaval in February), Boston, New York, Toronto and Ottawa. Quebec is also a nice province : I advice you to go to the whales in Tadoussac and to visit Gapésie. Finally I will make a myth fall : the Niagara falls are not worth it, so sad but it's better to go to Las Vegas to see planet Hollywood and Casinos....

Academic
Course recommendations
I chose lots of courses on local politics. I think it was a good decision, I learned a lot. Courses are taught in a very different way than in Europe. It's more like a discussion on the material red at home. Forget the magistral courses !

Exams are quite easier than in Europe but you will have papers to write in nearly all the courses. I believe this is interisting.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Appartements are quite inexpensive in Montreal even if prices are increasing a lot every year. If you want to meet people and spare money, choose a shared appartements, they are very popular here.

I would advice you not to live in the students' rooms offered by Concordia because of three reasons : you will have to share them, they are quite expensive (in comparison with the appartements) and you'll have to leave near Loyola Campus (lost, very far from downtown and the other campus of Concordia)
