I found prices in general just a bit less than I was used to in Atlanta, GA. Accomodations are typically cheaper for a good location, but of course it is less space. go with the ofertas. The rest of Spain is much cheaper.

Take time to make a good decision about where you´ll live, it will be important. I lived with all exchange students, but I would have preffered to have a few catalán people living with me also.

Make a serious effort to get out, learn the culture, and cross boundaries- meeting the locals, doing some travel, and finding the best aspects of daytime and nightime activities in and around barcelona

I found it necesary to at least have language skills in Castillano. Catalán is not necesary, but if you learn a few phrases it can be helpful in meeting locals.
