The first few weeks of class were hard. After about a month I began to understand much more in my classes. There were a lot of students from my home university there, so I was surrounded by english-speaking people too often which hindered my spanish progress for a while.

Drinks cost 8-10€ at discos here. That really hurt my wallet for a while, until I was able to find cheaper, more local bars.

Academic
Course recommendations
If you are not a native spanish speaker, it might be a good idea to look for a class or two in english instead of all courses in spanish. Some teachers were hard to understand, especially at first and it would have been nice to have at least one class in english to relax in. Taking courses in spanish is a valuable opportunity however.

There is heavy emphasis put on the final exam and final projects. I would recommend trying to work on the group projects with native students, as they know the professors and what they expect from you.

Personal recommendation
It is a good school, one of the best for business in spain. The classes in the 5th year are very good, interactive and small. I did not participate in the class discussions as much as I would have liked because of the language problem. Overall, the classes were stimulating, not too much work, and there is a lot of support for international students here.

Final comments
Try to schedule your classes so you don´t have class on monday or friday, or both. Use the long weekends to travel around spain, there is a lot to see.

Housing
Type of housing: Began living in a residence hall, moved to apt.
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It is enjoyable if you can find good roommates. It is inexpensive (relative to apartments in the U.S.). Provides independence, freedom.

I lived in the Residencia Sarria for the first month. It is a good way to meet new people and has some conveniences. It is within walking distance to ESADE, has access to metro and buses. The food isn´t too bad. However, it is very expensive compared to the apartments are available in Barcelona. I grew tired of the restrictive nature of the residencia, many rules that I thought shouldn´t be applied to 20 year old students. The apartment was a better option for me. However, I would have rather found one with spanish people.
