You can sign up for a dorm room, but in reality this has no effect. Instead, the best way to get a room is to go to the university dormatory administration office and beg for a room. It is my experience, that this approach is far more effective than doing things the orderly way. Because I did not follow these rather primitive methods, I ended up having to find an appartment, which was quite a struggle, but also a good experience.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
For me, it's important not only to live independant, but also with others. Living in a shared appartment has all I ask for. Anyhow, I would rather live in a new way if I'd go one more year to try something new!

The housing was completely satisfying. The metro station was just around a corner and it was a calm district to live at.

If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I shared an apartment with two Swiss people, which was a great way to practice my French. However, I would like to get to know more students, especially ones from other schools and programs.

The university does not own any housing complexes. However, it advertises offers from people who rent out rooms or apartments. This solution works well. One can also find many offers posted on boards around the campus. Another great way to find housing is to consult the different student and housing websites.

Apply early for a place in the university student accomodation (with the FMEL agency) as it's the best but you have to apply very early! In order of preference: Cèdres, then Bourdonette and then Rhodanie, the others aren't so good for location or sociability. Cèdres is by far the best if you like being near the lake, and partying all night with other students! The price is also cheap compared to the UK, and everything is well organised.

The exchange office there works pretty well, they gave me much more help than on my origin university. The main problem is that there is no campus, and therefore most of the accomodation places are far from the university. There are some very nice appartments but it is difficult to find a place if you are not going to stay a whole year.
