Multilingual Communication
Berit V
Germany, Undergraduate
Communication and Information Sciences, 2021
Overall
The course doesnt really go deeply into topics but gives you a good overview about several aspects and research areas in language studies, cultural studies, media, economics, translation and communication.
You have native speakers as teachers and small courses so there is usually much interaction with the teaching professor. The compulsory semester abroad gibes you the opportunity to test your language and social skills. The university is located beautifully close to the Rhine and you can easily reach it by public transport. You have a cafeteria where you can buy snacks and a canteen for a quick, cheap lunch. The library is well-stocked and has a wide range of scientific literature. You should be aware that when you specialise in economics that it doesnt mean that you can get into a ‘classic’ economics masters.

Great offer of courses but confusing organization

Overall
Most of the teachers are really qualified and  teach in a successful way, the campus is very good located and designed in a pragmatic but comfortable way. However, the organization of the project week or other events appears not to be a very long time in advance and the students learn about the details only when it already has started. Nevertheless offers the university a great amount of different courses and help for its students.

My stay at Fachhochschule Köln
Kawa S
Germany, Undergraduate
Computer Science / IT, 2024
Overall
The courses of the Fachhochschule Köln (it's name changed to Technische Hochschule Köln) in my opinion are good distributed, the only thing that I would miss are perhaps some new courses like quantum artificial intelligence programming, but it's pretty new stuff and perhaps not important for everyone, so I understand that we don't have a course like that. When I began to study after about 4 months the corona pandemy started, so it's not easy to judge my stay there if I wasn't forced to have zoom sessions instead of present classes, but I think they handled it pretty well, since there were a lot of changes in a short period of time. Also the courses that we study in are nice in my opinion, since we aren't doing theoretical stuff too much and also learn how to use programming languages for example exactly. I heard that other universities in Germany don't do that, so it's a plus point.

I am a Bachelor student in the 4th semester of the study path "Multilingual Communication". During the 3rd semester you get to pick a prior field of attention. You can choose between Translation/Economy/Culture & Media.

The first three semesters are rather general as you deepen your knowledge in the two chosen languages (choice between English/French/Spanish) and their cultural region studies, get a general idea about economy, law, IT basics, and translation. Furthermore you gain intercultural competences.

All my professors are very reliable, and throughout very understanding and supporting.

With the obtained degree B.A. you have various opportunities for jobs and also the possibility to attain a Masters program
