I live in the Studenten Wohnheim in Biesdorf and despite it being pretty far away from the college FHTW, it still managed to maintain a good student atmosphere

buy a student MONATSKARTE. it is a ticket which lets you travel on the tram, s-bahn, u-bahn and bus for one month. Saves money in the long term, as opposed to purchasing a ticket every day

I wish I had known...
it would have been nice to have been assigned a peer student of some type, someone to explain things to you, where things are etc. information on accomadation and location of both college and accomadation.

Personal recommendation
continue the erasmus programme the way it is right now, but maybe try in organise more social events for both erasmus and host students on a continuous basis. I know students are there primarily to study, but i feel thats one side of FHTW life which was neglected, a social scene with host students and not just international ones.

Final comments
don't just hang around with people you knew before you arrived. make the effort to speak German. If you don't, you'll regret it later when you're at home and its exam time, or else you'll regret it when you return to Germany in later years. the public transport system is easy to follw, maybe print off a copy of the map of Berlin, bus, u&s-bahns and trams before you arrive so as to familiarise yourself with your new home finally, speak to the students who were there in previous years, let them share their experiences with you and ask them any questions you feel might benifit you for your GFerman adventure.

i went to Berlin, to improve my German. My course in Ireland was called International Marketing, and therefore fluency in a foreign language would not just help in the workplace, but be a necessity. The classes in FHTW were much more personal than in most Universities. Lecturers knew your name. You got to know your classmates on a first name basis too. This familiar setting definitely helped me and my classmates improve our knowledge of the Gereman language
