I felt totally prepared when I went abroad, I brought way too many clothes, so that is one thing that I would do dfferently.

I would recommend this program mostly because of its great location. Everyone that studied abroad there was awesome. However you could probably find a more academic program with more well rounded undergraduate students at another institution.

TRAVEL,TRAVEL, TRAVEL. Its so easy to do and you never know when you'll have that same experience again. If I could do it all over again, I definitely would! Studying abroad, no matter where you go, is a great opportunity which everyone who can should take advantage of. It definitely was a time of growing and learning, a life changing experience. It really doesn't matter where you go, just go abroad, somewhere.

Travel, Travel, Travel!!!!! There are so many great sights! Go all over Europe! Also Milan is only 30 minutes aways from you, try to visit that place a lot, along with other Italian cities. Read up on Lugano and the surrouding areas, that way you have an idea about where to travel. Meet lots of people!! Franklin is only about 40% American it seeemed, so you have a great student body to learn from. There are so many languages and cultures in the school that you can learn from!!!

Its a decent school. Teachers are mediocre, and some have horrible teaching skills. The best parts of this univeristy though is the 2 week academic travel and the student body.

Have a great semester. This school is a great place to meet lots of future potential business contacts. Many students are very wealthy (dont be surprised to see Ferraris and Porches in student parking!!!), so its great to meet people that one day may be politicans or big business owners in their respective countries. Try making friends with international students, and then visiting their country with them!! Many are great hosts, not to mention accomidations they have at their home which are usually ridiculously elegant!! Make the most of your 2 week academic travel!! Also, make sure you go outside Lugano, and visit other cities and countries, but be sure to get a good idea of Lugano. Its a nice city, and has some great sights.

More language experience would have been fun but not necessary. If you definately know where you want to travel it's in your best interest to buy a swisspass or eurail pass. However, it's hard to guess what kind of people you'll meet or where you'll want to travel, so don't worry. Having a pass will save you some money and hassle but it's not difficult to figure it out as you go. Take advantage of the cheap airfare within europe and check out possible destinations before hand. We flew roundtrip to Paris from Milan for 40 euro roundtrip. Check out volareweb.org and ryanair.com

I particpated based soley on the location and travel opportunity. In 5 weeks I managed to travel around Switzerland (Interlaken and Zermatt need to be checked out), made it to Paris, as well as Venice and Cinque Terre in Italy. Go with an idea of what you want out of your time spent in Switzerland and you won't be disappointed. Everything is at your fingertips if you take advantage of it.

I would stronly recommend this university. It is in a fabulous location with the ability to travel all over. Milan Itlay is an hour away, the beachs of Italy are not far and the mountains of Swizterland and Italy are right at your disposable. I went skiing all the time in the winter and met the most wonderful people.

The only thing I would warn is Switzerland is very expensive. Living there and keeping up with the life style of the natives is quite a finiacial task...even a small glass of coke will cost you at least $2.00...be prepared to spend a lot...no matter how well you think you can budget!

knowing what to expect from the courses, knowing there was no phones in the apartments, knowing the limitations on computer facilities and library resources, knowing how few people were really active (its in the Alps!) and how few would travel on weekends

I would re4commend it for many people, it has an academic travel program which is awesome and unique, but they need some serious improvements to accomodate students- there is more than a 30% turnover rate amongst students who go intending to stay for a degree, something they wont tell you

Academics go beyond the classroom experience

Overall
Franklin distinguishes itself by living and breathing the international community atmosphere across all aspects of campus. It's a truly personalized experience where students can combine academic areas and work closely with the faculty members to delve deeper into the subject. I studied International Relations and to constantly be surrounded by students from across the world sharing their prospective and knowledge only elevates the classroom experience. Academic Travel brings the learning outside the classroom with an experiential learning component.
