Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
Living with a family provided a glimpse into the everyday culture that I was looking for. If a student is searching for an experience that can teach them about a diffferent culture, the best advice I can offer is to immerse yourself as fully as possible in that culture.

I enjoyed eating, speaking and traveling with my family while in Berlin. Stories were exchanged, viewpoints were argued and a deeper understanding of two different cultures was achieved through my time in a home stay. My personal opinion is that living with other American students during my time abroad would have been a waste of time because it is too easy to slip back into what you know. One of the main reasons a student should study abroad is to broaden their horizons. Living with a family in Berlin did that for me.

i liked the wide opporunity to choose whit whom you wanted to live with. Also there was nearby a good and cheap place to eat and spent time in the evening. in conclusion i liked to live there. The school was near, the only bad thing was, that the city was far and sometimes we had to take a taxi, because the busses didnt go.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I am fond of my independence and I need solitude and extrem tranquility to study and work at home. I am also very fond of cleaninles and order and I would not like to have someone who can disturb all those elements I consider so important in my home.

This University offered housing on its Campus, but it was not that cheap and it was very crowded.

despite the high cost and all other difficulties in finding a furnished apartment for a specific period, there are benefits such as, independently choosing the location you want to live in, decide wheather you'll have a roomate or not,the ability to invite people over and your the personal care of cleanliness.

Housing
Type of housing: university accomodation, not on campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: the same
Why?
i would still like to live in university accomodation because one can meet so many people from around the world. However, if I was staying in Berlin for both semesters I would move to a flat/appartment for the second part of the year.

Housing
Type of housing: Student residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would try to live in a shared apartment, with some native students with whom I could speak in German. Also because I would have the facilities privacy of a home, and not just a bedroom with shared kitchen. It would be much more confortable. Lastly, because I would look for an apartment in the center of the town -the student residences are more towards the outskirts of the city and you have to take too many public transport-.

The good thing about the student residence was that it was in a very green and quiet location of Berlin, and near one of the biggest lakes in the city, where people bath in summer. I also enjoyed the international student atmosphare, the organized parties and events. It was very near from the university -just some underground stations away-, although quite far away from the center of the city. The bedroom wasn't too big, but pretty neat, and with a very affordable price! I had only wished the walls were thicker, because I could hear too loud what my neighbour was doing. As negative aspects, I would point out that the kitchen had to be shared between too many people, about 10, so we didn't have too much space to put our things in the refrigerator and cupboards. It wasn't too clean either, and it didn't have an oven (which would have been practical for such things as pizza). The bathroom wasn't too nice either, and it was for both men and women, not separate (not too confortable). I suppose positive and negative aspects were more or less balanced about the residence.
