Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Universitites in Germany don't have the campus structure that the United States has. When living in a great city like Berlin, take advantage of it and do what all the other students do: find a WG with others where all the action is. I recommend East Berlin, such as Prenzlauerberg, Mitte or Friedrichshain.

I had an easy time, but I had lived in Germany for a year already. German is a difficult langauge, so be sure to interact with Germans as much as possible. Don't get lazy and speak your mother tongue. If you want to do that, you can stay at home.

Personal spending habits
Berlin, despite being the capital, is a very cheap city. Housing is extremely reasonable and night like is priced well. Expect the same prices in the rest of Germany.

German academic life is geared toward the self-motivated, directed student. If you always need a little push, it's very easy to get lazy here. Watch out!
