Course recommendations
Guide yourself not just by the title, try to get some deep info about the course and if it belongs to the first years (basic theory contents) or to the upper years (more practical interactive courses). Try to participate, and always talk with the teachers to "negociate" about works, exams and how they can help you (main problem is mostly the language!).

Personal comments
Yes, more recognition and use of the european ECTS (study credits): the teachers don't really know how to work with them or how many they should give out depending of the tasks a course involves, and -in psychology- they give out less credits than what they should. The problem happens simply because Germany does not use this ECTS system.

Corona studies

Germany, Undergraduate

Overall
Because I started to study during corona, I can't describe the "normal" experience at "Freie Universität". But I have to say they managed everything extremely well. There were a lot of online meetings, etc.
The teachers were all very nice and all the students I spoke to too(limited due to covid).

Course recommendations
My courses were predetermined and lasted only 6 weeks. They included an economic history of Germany, Unification Issues, Life in Cold War East Berlin and introductory German language classes. It is best to try and immerse yourself in the host language as quickly as possible. I found it hard to talk with locals becuase they wanted to speak in English as soon as they heard my American accent. All courses on German history during the Cold War are fascinating. Berlin provides the best possible "city as classroom" opportunity I can think of. Locals can still tell you first hand stories of life during and after the Cold War.

I attended a summer course of German Istruction for Absolute Beginners but if you choose other courses pay attention to not full your week with courses--it'd be too tiring (from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. every day!)

Berlin is a bit hard by finding a job and support financial expenses, before moving there it would be better to look for a part time job or to know something more about students organizations which help students to find jobs to support themselves.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
i would choose between a campus or apartment. on campus, because there you can find friends easily and you have better chances to socialize with people. apartment i will choose, because of his privacy and convenience.

i liked the wide opporunity to choose whit whom you wanted to live with. Also there was nearby a good and cheap place to eat and spent time in the evening. in conclusion i liked to live there. The school was near, the only bad thing was, that the city was far and sometimes we had to take a taxi, because the busses didnt go.
