Personal recommendation
If you're looking for an easy ride and good grades, steer clear of the finance courses. However, if you want the opportunity to do courses that aren't available at most UK unis, then it might be worth sacrificing grades for the experience.

Whatever you do, don't pack lightly! The winter is freezing, and can get down to -40, but this has little or not effect on socialising and going out, so don't worry. Plus, taxis in Montreal are very inexpensive.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It was a very nice experience to live some distance away from the university. Because after all the day's hard work one had to pass through shopping centres and plazas which had a soothing and relaxing effect. This was specially important during winters when everything is covered with snow, staying at a some distance from the university can also avoid boredom.

Go to NYC, Boston, Vancouver if you can. You will not learn much by spending long hours on and around the campus after classes. Visit and look constantly for new spots. for Speak english.

Personal comments
The local language as the language of instruction at the HEC in Montreal was french. As I went to France twice as an Au-pair girl before the international study exchange, my french was already pretty good. Fortunately, I had no problems because of the language barrier at the beginning like other non french native speakers exchange students had, that I could had the chance to profit more of social and academic life (while the others were still studying grammar, etc).
