Personal comments
The local language as the language of instruction at the HEC in Montreal was french. As I went to France twice as an Au-pair girl before the international study exchange, my french was already pretty good. Fortunately, I had no problems because of the language barrier at the beginning like other non french native speakers exchange students had, that I could had the chance to profit more of social and academic life (while the others were still studying grammar, etc).

Personal spending habits
telephone in Canada (even to Europe) is very cheap; as my apartment was situated in the center of Montreal, it was a bit more expensive than my apartment in Austria; as I travelled a lot before and after the exchange program in East as also in West Canada, I spent a lot of money for travel.

Academic
Course recommendations
As my specification was "International Managment" it was very interesting to attend the course "Culture, Organisation et Management", because students from North America, South America and Europe took this course, so we had the chance to discuss the subjects directly with people from other cultures

Final comments
As Quebec is very different from other provinces I recommend to visit other parts of Canada out from Quebec to get a good overview of the diversity of Canada.
