Even the local language was the Finnish and it is really difficult to learn and speak it. Everybody in the city was able to speak English, so it was very easy to speak with people. but we also take some lessons about Finnish Language and we where able to say some basic pharases to survive.

I had no problems coming through with english, however sometimes it was quiete annoying to speak no finish, especially when i went shopping or in museums if i wanted to make a guided tour.

In Helsinki everybody understands English. At school as well as in the city (shops, bank, restaurants, cafes, kiosks,..) you can express yourself in English.

Young Finnish people perfectly speak English. HSE is quite international so you can learn English as well as Spanish, German, Chinese, French and Finnish!

lot f international students so good way to improve English. However, lots of French students as well, so French is still spoken for daily purposes.

Finnish is impossible to learn, but at least at university most people speak english. In every day life it sometimes is a bit of a problem.
