Course recommendations
A lot of english language ones are available for those not strong on the old germanic side of the fence. As these courses didnt count towards my degree classification I hit an intellectual highpoint with "Mediation and Negotiation Management"... got a 1st - shock / horror!

No pastoral care, get used to it... German Uni's have 30,000 students at a minimum - what'd you expect?

I wish I had known...
Dont worry, Berlin is so cheap any administrative nightmares (ie accomodation) can be sorted out on arrival. Get Angemeldet immediatly, you are not a human without an "Anmeldebescheinigung". It is a prerequisite for: bank account, registration at uni, telephone and most other essentials.

Berlin is CHEAP (for a Londoner)! This means you can go out almost every night, to the coolest places on the planet. The only problem is...this inevitably leads to extremes, meaning you eventually get broke. The benifit being that by this point your also physically broke, meaning you give both your bank and back a break.

Cookies (EXCELLENT club), and Greenwhich (EXCELLENT bar). Ost Gut (club) is a little shocking, but MUST be seen. The Panorma bar is inside the same building, and also worth a visit. Techno freaks can go to Tresor, I didnt. Its all so darn cheap, like London priced in Lira!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Its so cheap! University accomodation is literally located somewhere in Poland (nobody really knows). Suitable accomodation in Berlin is in great surplus, and can be obtained very easily through the Uni's SU.

I lived in west Berlin (Wilmersdorf), the Uni's in the heart of east Berlin (Mitte). If I could choose again id find an appartment (expect 300 euros a month) in arty Prenzlauer Berg (just north east of Mitte). Its on the tram line (operates 24hr mon - sun), easily accsesible and near all the clubs, cafes, bars et all... its also a beautifull, in which you can actually witness Berlin's growth into a European capital.
