Personal social experience
Personal comments
Spanish people are very open-minded and kind. The best way to integrate the city is to go out with a little group of friends and don't be afraid to talk to people sat next to you wherever the place you are.

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.

My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I started speaking english to most people I met in the beginning (as they were mostly foreign students). But I quickly started dreaming in spanish and the day-to-day made the rest. I'm sure now that if you only know the basic phrases and grammar while arriving in the country you can be at ease in 2 or 3 months in most situations.

Travelling in Spain isn't expensive. Buses companies are cheaper than trains' ones and Barcelona for example is well connected to Madrid in bus.
Spanish people are very open-minded and have a wonderful culture which they love to talk about , so listen to them!
