The thing is that, at that time, I was living with my parents, so I didn't have much expenses. But, of course Mexico is cheaper than Canada. If you find your own place to stay, shop at the good places and market, it is cheaper than most places: but you can easily go out every night and spend all the money you had in a month if you're not careful.

No. If you are on exchange, you're probably going to pay the school fees at your home university. Transportation is expensive. Get your visa arranged long time before leaving, and don't sign any contract on an apartment nor leave a deposit.

Take the bus system at all costs, if possible. You'll save a ton if you are able to plan your time ahead so you are able to take advantage of the bussing. Cabs tend to cost too much and should be used as a secondary resource to transportation.

Food expenses were high mainly due to constant dining outside. Nightlife is quite expensive, especially for men who traditionally pay for everything. Telephone-costs in Mexico are pretty high related to other countries.

Be prepared for the services costs in addition to your rent. Those may well be about 20-25% of your rent! Don't eat at campus, it's really expensive and you can get way more authentic/tasty food nearby!

Food is cheap here, but if you join the discos where the people from the university go it is expensive, there is no middle-way, either cheap drinking in a pub o expensive drinking in a disco!

Leaving is as expensive here as in Germany, never thought that before, shampoos, cremes, everything for your body is very expensive here, better to bring it from your home-country

Tec had a big library so it was not necessary to buy all the books as one can easily get them from there. Travelling is cheaper with the busses, especially for students who get 50% discount during school holidays.
