Most young polish people have a good command in English, so it's no problem to get along without a deeper knowledge of the Polish language. In everyday life speaking Polish is a big plus as many elder people don't speak English.

Personal recommendation
Try to make use of the variety of modular courses taught by international professors at the end of the semester. Consider visiting the special TIGER events dealing with globalization, tranformation and development focussed on countries in transition.

Final comments
I'd try to get an appartment near Centrum because it's still affordable and very convenient regarding public transportation (a lot better than Praga). Try to meet some Polish people because it's an all different experience of Warsaw staying with them than to only stick to other ERASMUS people. Try to learn Polish on a basic level before as it makes daily life a lot easier.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Housing in Warsaw is in general affordable and I would still prefer living independently off campus.

Personal comments
The international office responsible for accomodation seemed to be swamped with finding appartments for reasonable prices. I had to learn that I could've rented my appartment by myself for just half the price.

WarsawInsider and inyourpocket.com provide valuable information as well as aktivist.pl does. Nightlife mainly concentrates on Clubs focussing on electronic music. Best coffee in town can be found at Mercer's and CoffeeHeaven.
