Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
i like to live independantly, taking my own decisions with no higher control as to my movements ,my routine life. since i am a trainee orthopaedic surgeon i have odd schedule and on duty calls , i like it when there are no strict entry and exit schedules as in a hostel.

previously i had to live in the universities hostel for about twelve months and those times were harsd as it was a combined hostel both for freshies as for post grad students, so i preferred to move out as concentrating was hard to come by.

I lived on a corridor with 7 other people, which was good in ways of integrating with the Swedish. I had a bathroom all for myself, a big enough room. A minor drawback was the shared kitchen, which wasn't the cleanest, but bearable and definitely enough space to store in the fridge etc. Also, no kitchen equipment was needed,we all shared, which is very convenient for an exchange student!

I was really lucky with my corridor mates, had never so much fun with people. I love to have conversation and parties whenever I enter the corridor and that was really the case on our corridor in Ryd.

The rooms are sufficient large and the bathroom directly connected to the room, so you don't have to share it with other people...very good. The kitchen has to be shared with the corridor mates and is large enough if not all eight want to cook at the same time. Telephone and a connection to the internet are available, especially the internet connection was a great advantage and this for a really moderate price.

Why?
Besides from there being no other choice, it was really important to get in close contact with the local students.

You live closely with 7 other students in a corridor, share kitchen and a living room. Your own room is fairly big and has shower/WC. Laundry facilities etc are close and for free. Rent is not cheap, but includes everything.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Due to the fact that I have more peace and so I could focus 100 percent on my studies than if I lived on a campus area.

The housing offered by this university can be very good if the student is lucky enough to get it in one of its new buildings. Otherwise I have heard colleagues complaining.

"Corridor" is the most extended kind of housing in Linköping. I have my own room and toilets, but I live with 7 people more and it is very easy to rely on the others and to know different people.

Here in Linköping (Sweden) they look after their students, because we have a lot of space in our corridors and we are receiving solution inmediatly if we have some problems. And it is very easy to rely on different people from different countries.
