Already before I went to Germany I had a good knowledge of the German language, since I had studied Gearman as a Foreighn Language for teachers at my home university in Gdañsk and before my study at LM university I worked as a Au-pair in a german family in Munich. Therefore I didn't experience any difficulties during my stay. I consider, my everyday language has improved and become more varied.

Best deal to get food are the spledid supermarkets Penny Markt, Netto, which are both fresh and good. Also, the university restaurant is cheap and very good. Clothes you can buy pretty cheap on Flohmarkt (second-hand market), in C&A, H&M, which have satisfying quallity.

I wish I had known...
I consider that I was well prepared for my stay, but I wish I had had a better overview in getting student visa matters, whiched caused me som difficulties. Since my previous experience of Au-pair work in Munich I was well prepared, new a lot about social, cultural, political life in Germany and got to know lots of interesting people.

Ludwig Maximilians university is a very good university, which offers you a wide range of different courses. There are many international students at the university, which make the local area very multi-cultural. Every international student could have a tutour - help. There are many students organisations, so that you will surly find acctivities corresponding to your interests. If you don't speak German very well, you can take a course in Studentenwerk, organised through german students, which offer you German lessons (gratis).

Final comments
Munich is a great place to spend a year. The academic system is very well organized and offers great opportunities. The city is beautiful, have many interesting places (in summer lovely "Biergarten" with the best beer in Germany and not only...). The people are very friendly and helpful. And don't forget the phrase: "Gruess Gott" :), which is a common words for greetings people in Bayern.

Munich is a heart of Bayern. It is beautiful city, which offer you many interesting cultural places: many museums, theaters, cinemas (IMAX is a special place!), nice bars, cafes and clubs. The lovely area of the university (Leopoldstrasse)is the best tip to go out.

the student home, where I lived - in Theresienstrasse, was very nice place to live. I've met a lot of interesting people - not only students from Germany, but although other countries. The location was although very good - very close to the university.
